About Us

Deconstruction is saving for reuse up to 15% of house parts & recycling another 60-70%. This keeps 700 tons/yr out of landfills & avoids 300 tons/yr of CO2 emissions. We do this mostly by hand, training & employing men who were incarcerated or homeless. Homeowners' tax benefit from donating reuse material often offsets the cost of our services. A multiple bottom line alternative to demolition!

ReUse Warehouse is our public outlet with fixtures, cabinetry, appliances, lumber & more, reasonably priced.

We work to build healthy communities operating at the intersection of racial, social, economic, and environmental justice. We envision a future where men who want to build better lives, can. Where men, predominantly African American, returning from prison have supports they need to stay out of prison. A future where men who want to succeed aren’t locked out of opportunities, but have access to fundamentals everyone needs to build healthy, happy lives for themselves & their families.

African Americans are 5% of Minnesota’s population, yet they make up 31% of the state’s prison or jail population. Men being released from these systems nationwide are not welcomed into the community. In Minnesota, they are prohibited from voting, from living in public housing, & they face significant barriers to employment, often remaining isolated from community. Without systemic transformation and personal supports, nearly 60 percent will return to Minnesota prisons. 95% of Better Futures men stay successful. It takes all of us, working together, to disrupt and end systemic racial barriers.
