1.) How did you get started in the industry?
I got introduced the industry after I met my now husband 14 years ago. He had been in the industry for 10 years at that time, and I started out helping with small office work and detailing as he grew. In 2011 I started working more alongside him to grow the size and scope of projects that we could take on. In 2014 after our youngest was born, he decided I needed to come on to work with us full time instead of event planning and bartending, or otherwise he was going to give up the business and go work at Home Depot.
2.) What value do women bring to the industry?
I believe that women bring a different energy and outlook to the industry. Women are not only in the design part of the industry and can help give some comfort to homeowners with some additional emotional attention that is sometimes needed with large investments.
3.) What would you say to young girls/women thinking about a career in the industry?
Never be afraid to learn a trade and something new. I now have a passion for some of the final details and finishing projects and am always learning new things. Always walk into the project and room with confidence. I did not at first and was not taken seriously by some, but that sure changed my approach quickly and helped me fight to know even more information each day.
