2024 Women in Construction Week Member Feature - Kelli Mickelson, Brynn Alden Interior Designs, LLC

Q1: What is your job title?
Principal/founder/interior designer/general contractor

Q2: What do you do for your company?
I wear many hats as the founder, designer, and general for our firm.  I handle the day to day design work as well as the project management.  Some like to say chief cook and bottle washer.

Q3: Do you hold any NARI certifications?
 I do not.

Q4: How do you use your previous experience and/or education to do your job?
My degree is Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the U of MN.  I was fortunate in my early career to have some great mentors in the kitchen and bath industry.  They offered me their knowledge and expertise and with that, I was able to create and expand Brynn Alden into the award winning design + build firm it is today.

Q5: What got you into the business?
I have always wanted to be an interior designer (since the age of 12) and quickly decided on residential design while attending the U of MN.  Kitchen and bath design evolved naturally through various positions I held early in my career doing kitchen and bath design and sales. My love of kitchen and bathroom design and my field experience on the remodeling side was a perfect culmination leading to our firms creation.

Q6: What do you love about Remodeling?
I love remodeling as it gives me both the critical thinking/problem solving along with the aesthetics.  I think it is the best of both worlds.  I often describe it as engineer or mathematician meets artist.  Analytical plus creative.  Every job is different.  No two days are ever the same in the remodeling world.  It definitely keeps me on my toes.
